Programs

Sounds-Write Group Program

Our Sounds Write Literacy Group is a structured 10-week program designed for children aged 5–8 years who would benefit from support developing foundational reading and writing skills.

  • This program is based on the Sounds-Write approach, an evidence-based structured literacy program that teaches children the relationship between speech sounds (phonemes) and written letters (graphemes).

Throughout the program, children will build the key skills required for successful reading and spelling through explicit instruction and guided practice.

In each session, participants will work through units of the Sounds-Write program. Each unit includes activities that target:

    • Segmenting sounds in words for spelling

    • Blending sounds together to read words

    • Manipulating phonemes within words

    • Dictation tasks

    • Reading activities

These skills form the essential foundation required for successful reading and writing.

Sessions are interactive and engaging to keep learning enjoyable while still providing structured instruction. Short breaks are incorporated throughout the session to support attention and regulation.

Group sizes are kept small to allow therapists to provide individualised support while still promoting peer learning and confidence building.

This group is ideal for children who are beginning readers or who may need additional support with decoding, spelling, and phonological awareness.

Little Literacy Legends

Little Literacy Legends is a 10-week early literacy program designed for children aged 4–5 years who are preparing to start school.

  • This group focuses on developing phonological awareness, which is the ability to hear, recognise and manipulate sounds in spoken words. Phonological awareness is one of the most important foundational skills children need before learning to read and write.

Throughout the program, children will participate in fun and interactive activities designed to strengthen their early literacy skills, including:

    • Recognising and producing rhyming words

    • Identifying the first and last sounds in words

    • Clapping and counting syllables

    • Blending sounds together to make words

    • Breaking words into individual sounds

Each 60-minute session targets two phonological awareness skills through engaging games, movement-based activities, and structured learning tasks. Children will also receive a workbook and optional home activities to help reinforce the skills learned each week.

Sessions are designed to be interactive, playful and supportive, helping children build confidence while developing the foundational skills required for learning to read.

Small group sizes allow therapists to provide personalised support while encouraging participation and collaboration with peers.

This group is ideal for children who are preparing to start school or who would benefit from strengthening their early sound awareness skills before formal reading instruction begins.
